2023 Oculocutaneous Albinism

My daughter was told that she has a mild case of Oculocutaneous Albinism; which is a fancy term that means she is sensitive to light. I have been told by my eye doctor that I have a very 'blonde eye' which basically means the same thing.

So what does all of this mean? It means that when I'm working on a computer, I prefer it to be rather dark. If there are lights, I prefer to have the light behind me, not in front of me or overhead. If the lights are overhead, I need to shade my eyes (either with my hand or a baseball hat) to be able to see clearly. Yep, there I am at work, inside, sitting at a desk with my baseball hat on. Sure I feel a little silly, but at least I can see.

I also prefer dark mode on the computer, which is a mostly dark background with high contrasting (light colored) text.

I try to always have a pair of sunglasses with me when I go outside. Bright lights at night generally have kind of a star effect. It's not an end of the world problem but it is a bit annoying to have. Anyway, if you see someone sitting inside with a baseball hat on, or they like to sit in the dark, this may be one explanation as to why.
