Photos have dimensions and file sizes. You have the option to download photos for free from our photo gallery.
small, thumbnail sized images are displayed on the page in webp format so that it loads super fast
"download medium" is the link to use to download the medium sized photo
the numbers under "download medium" are the number of pixels (little dots) that an image is made of
"download large" works similarly
the first number is the width
the second number is the height (tall)
the third number is the size of the file for the image in KB or MB
KB = KiloBytes (thousands)
MB = MegaBytes (millions)
GB = GigaBytes (billions)
TB = TeraBytes (trillions)
There are more than 80GB worth of photos in this photo gallery (that's a lot)
1000KB = 1MB (some systems round down like this example, others are 1024KB = 1MB; we'll use 1000 for explanation purposes)
Example: an image shown as (1024x674 105KB) is 1024 pixels wide by 674 pixels tall and is 105KB or .1MB; quite small; it would be good to use on a web page or Facebook post
Example: an image shown as (4032x3024 2MB) is 4032 pixels wide by 3024 pixels tall and is 2000KB or 2MB; fairly large; it would be a good image to keep
Facebook "dumbs down" their photos, so uploading a large photo doesn't do a lot of good
Downloading a larger image takes longer and takes more space on your device; but if you want to keep the image, we recommend downloading the large version
2 different photos at the same dimensions can be different because of how the images were created
All photos in our galleries are in JPG (compressed) format (some camera's create RAW images, which are usually twice as big in file size with the same dimensions as a JPG)
Cameras compress photos differently as well
Our photos have been typically shot with a smartphone, a DSLR, a drone, and a Mirrorless camera; images in more recent galleries will have more pixels than older ones
Images 4000 pixels wide or more are suitable to print in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, or even 11x14
Images 6000 pixels wide are magazine (and possibly billboard) quality
You can create zip files of the medium and large size photos in this album so you only need to download one file to get all of the photos; it can take a while to create the zip files
Macs unzip your files automatically; if you are using Windows you will need to extract the files from the zip file
