Kirk's Caption Converter
How Caption Converter Works
- paste your text in the area below to convert it
- you can paste in SRT or WebVTT formatted text, or text with or without extra line breaks, the system will convert any of these
- the results will be displayed in multiple formats
- you can copy/paste the text shown in the browser or use the "Copy text" button for quicker use
- the page replaces your line counter with a calculated line counter
- the calculated timings option attempts to guess at the times by multiply each vowel in the line by .3
- for accessibility reasons, captions should be 3 to 7 seconds or no more than 3 lines per caption
- the "starting time" is
shown like this
if it overlaps
the end time from the previous line
- the "to time" is
shown like this
if it is longer than 7
seconds
- the "to time" is
shown like this
if it is less than 3
seconds
- you can add time between lines by putting a plus sign and then a whole number (i.e. +5 adds 5 seconds)
- you can remove time between lines by putting a minus sign and then a whole number (i.e. -5 removes 5 seconds)
- adding and removing time applies to the SRT with original timings and WebVTT with original timings options
- lines that start with a left parenthesis like "(" are skipped
- lines containing web addresses that are not longer than 7 seconds are calculated at 6 seconds
- even if you don't use the calculated timings, they can be helpful to see if a line might be too long
- the width of the text area can be used to help gage how long a line should be
- there is support for adding " line:##" (use 0 through 15) to allow for repositioning captions to higher one the screen
