Things we would change about this class (# of references)

  1. Unclear about memorization, copying code, and assignments (4)
Class time for the course is heavy on the practice side so that you will figure out what is good to memorize as well as how/where to find code to do something new
You are more than welcome to steal my code for learning purposes; on assignments/projects you will need to modify it to 'make it yours'
All assignments are clearly listed/explained on the web site (and I try to cover it in class too), let me know if you don't understand something
  2. Personal computer problems/network drive issues (3)
I'm happy to help as much as I can
The IT help desk is a good option too (529-7900)
  3. Frustrating when one mis-placed character wrecks the whole page/site (3)
Change one thing at a time and verify that your change functioned as expected
You're always free to ask me for help, following the change one thing at a time rule will allow me to help you more quickly
  4. Class time structure/flipped classroom (3)
People learn different ways which is why the content is provided in multiple ways:
    • Class website with complete listing of the entire semester
    • Content presented as videos for self-paced learning
    • Videos accompanied by transcripts for text-based self-paced learning
    • Class time for practice
    • Class time for lecture/instructor lead learning
    • Class time for peer-based interaction and learning
    • Class time for individual/one-on-one assistance
  5. 3 hour class is too long (3)
I'm trying to keep our full time to around 2 hours to offer an hour for individual assistance and time to work on assignments
  6. Text projected is too small sometimes (2)
Let me know, sometimes I forget to check
  7. Too much time spent addressing individual's problems during class (2)
There are some stages where the class will need to wait for some individuals to catch up and some where we need to move on, finding the balance is very tricky
  8. Independant learning (2)
    Discussed above
  9. Contacting the instructor (2)
I think all questions during class are answered immediately
With my recent accident, I have been slow to check email at times; I should get better at this as I catch up; I have not been contacted via email much, please use the appropriate contact links (which provide the subject lines) so that I see your emails sooner than later
  10. Provide more code to steal (1)
The course is designed so that this is an option at opportune times
  11. Individual questions addressed without enough explanation (1)
If you believe that this occurs, you need to stay at the end of class to get more individual assistance
  12. Seating arrangement (1)
You are free to re-arrange seating as desired
  13. More explanation of example code
Ask questions if you don't understand something
  14. Endless buffet offered during class
Did you like the Bingo prizes?

Kirk's Evaluation of the Class

  1. I didn't see any glaring class-wide issues based on our mid-term evaluations (on WebPage06)
  2. Most people are participating
  3. People with questions need to speak up and/or stick around after the 'group' part of class is done
  4. I would like more people watch the videos
  5. We should be at a point where creating the next WebPage## should only take a minute or so
  6. I'm considering adding videos (for future classes) to address:
    1. Our discussion about where code lives (on your computer vs a server) and how users get to it
    2. Other ideas???
  7. PhotosOfMe - only 4 people participated and the images don't match the requested size
